The photograph is attributed to John Davidson Wheelan, a cameraman for the Mutual Film Corporation—a company with which Villa had signed an exclusive contract to bring his life and battles to the big screen. The film featuring this image, captured in Ojinaga, was titled *The Life of General Villa*; it premiered in New York on May 7, 1914.
Thus, the significance of the Battle of Ojinaga in Mexican history was immortalized in this image—the most famous picture of the *División del Norte* commander and one of the most widely reproduced images of the entire Mexican Revolution.
More than a century after the event, Miguel Valverde—a native of this state—recreates the scene with brushstrokes, offering it as a gift to the eyes of the people of this revolutionary land.
